What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating exercise capacity, lung function, respiratory muscle strength, and quality of life in adults diagnosed with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. These psychiatric conditions are linked to sedentary lifestyles, medication side effects, and higher risks of other health problems, which can reduce physical fitness and respiratory health. The study aims to better understand these physical limitations to help develop improved rehabilitation methods for these populations. The study involves assessing participants' respiratory function through pulmonary function tests, measuring respiratory muscle strength by maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressures, evaluating exercise capacity with a six-minute walk test, and assessing quality of life using the WHOQOL-Bref questionnaire. Participants include adults aged 18 to 65, grouped by diagnosis of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or healthy controls. All assessments occur on the first day of participation. Participants will undergo a variety of evaluations including lung function tests, respiratory muscle strength measurements, exercise capacity testing, and quality of life questionnaires. Researchers will analyze data such as forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume, peak expiratory flow, maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressures, six-minute walk distance, and quality of life scores. The study offers an opportunity to better understand physical health challenges in these mental health conditions and aims to inform future multidisciplinary support programs.
