What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating whether short videos can help Vietnamese American mothers decide to vaccinate their children against HPV (human papillomavirus). This study focuses on increasing HPV vaccination rates among Vietnamese American youth by engaging their mothers, who are key decision-makers. It addresses challenges like limited HPV knowledge, low English proficiency, and cultural health beliefs that contribute to low vaccine uptake and higher cervical cancer rates in this community. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will watch four brief digital stories about the HPV vaccine created by Vietnamese mothers over four weeks, viewing one 3-minute video per week. The other group will watch four short videos on general teen health topics such as mental health and social media use. The study uses a randomized, two-arm design with 60 Vietnamese American mothers of unvaccinated children aged 11 to 14. Participants will complete online surveys at the start, immediately after the intervention, and two months later. Researchers will check the child's HPV vaccination status two months after the videos. Some participants will also be interviewed to explore engagement with the videos. Bilingual staff and culturally tailored outreach support equitable participation. The study aims to measure vaccine intentions, actual vaccination rates, and acceptability of the videos to inform future prevention strategies.
