What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating a digital meditation intervention aimed at improving attention, cognitive function, and wellbeing in older adults experiencing cognitive decline or mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The study also examines how factors like cognitive decline level, genetic risk for Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular risk, and race or ethnicity might influence treatment effects. This research seeks to develop a personalized approach to cognitive enhancement for individuals at risk of dementia. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of several groups using a tablet-based meditation-inspired cognitive training game called MediTrain, which adapts in difficulty as users improve. Different groups will use the app for varying durations and session lengths (15 or 30 minutes per day for 3 or 6 weeks). There is also an active control group using a different app designed to match expectations of benefit but without the same cognitive training focus. During the study, participants will complete cognitive assessments at baseline, immediately after training, and at a 6-month follow-up. These include the Mobile Continuous Performance Task (CPT) and the Adaptive Cognitive Evaluation (ACE), which measure attention and cognitive abilities over time. Researchers will monitor engagement with the digital app and track changes in cognitive performance to assess the intervention's impact. The study is expected to continue until June 2029.
