What this Trial Is About
This research aims to compare two methods to improve oral cancer awareness and prevention among African American adults in the Richmond area. It evaluates the differences between using traditional educational handouts and an AI-powered chatbot designed to provide information on oral cancer risks, symptoms, prevention, and the importance of regular dental check-ups. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group receives educational handouts from trusted sources like the CDC and American Cancer Association, with time allowed to read them. The other group interacts with an AI-powered chatbot via a provided link, which offers oral cancer education and answers participants' questions. Both methods focus on increasing knowledge and encouraging preventive behaviors. During the study, participants' knowledge, behavior, and acceptability of the interventions will be measured at the start and after three months. Researchers will also examine socio-demographic factors affecting oral cancer knowledge. Participant retention rates in each group will be compared to assess engagement. The total participation involves baseline and follow-up assessments over a three-month period.
