What this Trial Is About
Vestibular schwannoma is a non-cancerous tumor located on the vestibulocochlear nerve and represents a portion of intracranial tumors. It can cause symptoms like hearing loss, tinnitus, vestibular deficits, vertigo, and facial paralysis. Researchers are evaluating the effects of gamma-knife radiosurgery, a treatment option aimed at stabilizing this tumor, on vestibular function in patients with vestibular schwannoma. Participants in this study will undergo gamma-knife radiosurgery as part of their treatment for vestibular schwannoma. The study focuses on assessing vestibular function using various vestibular exams, including interrogation, videonystagmoscopy, videonystagmography, and video-head-impulse tests. These evaluations occur before treatment and at several follow-up points up to three years after radiosurgery. During the study, participants will have their vestibular function described with videonystagmography and videonystagmoscopy one month before radiosurgery and again at intervals between six months and three years after treatment, depending on individual treatment history. Researchers will also assess vestibular symptoms before and after radiosurgery. The study includes monitoring participant cooperation and health insurance status during the study period, which runs until November 2024.
