What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating GlycoQuest, an AI-adaptive serious game integrated with continuous glucose monitoring CGM, designed for children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and their primary caregivers. This study aims to improve glycemic control and psychosocial adaptation during the first year after diagnosis by comparing GlycoQuest plus standard care to an enhanced digital psychoeducation app plus standard care in a randomized controlled trial. Participants will be assigned to one of two groups one receiving GlycoQuest, which features CGM-linked gameplay, a glucose-responsive avatar, AI-personalized learning pathways, parent-child collaborative modules, and psychosocial support content the other receiving enhanced digital psychoeducation with diabetes education materials but without AI or game elements. The intervention lasts 6 months, followed by an additional 2 months of follow-up to assess safety, engagement, and outcomes. During the study, children and caregivers will engage with the assigned digital platform alongside standard diabetes care. Researchers will monitor glycemic outcomes including CGM-derived time in range and diabetes distress at 8 months, as well as secondary outcomes like hypoglycemia events, glycemic variability, HbA1c levels, quality of life, and family dynamics. Data on engagement and implementation will also be collected to evaluate the digital interventions impact.
