Gut Microbiota Study in Adults Having Surgery for Pancreatic Cancer Examining Bacteria Linked to Post-Surgery Complications

Pancreatic head cancer is a common and serious type of cancer with about 13,500 new cases each year. This research aims to find out if certain bacterial species in the gut are linked to higher risks of complications after surgery in patients with peri-ampullary tumors undergoing duodenocephalopancreasectomy DCP. The study focuses on understanding these connections to improve outcomes for patients undergoing this complex surgery. The study involves collecting samples of feces, jejunal mucosa, bile, and pancreatic fluids from patients who have pancreatic adenocarcinoma and are scheduled for DCP surgery. These samples will be analyzed to study the gut microbiota before surgery, and again 15 and 30 days after surgery. The research will look for associations between bacterial types and complications such as pancreatic fistula, biliary fistula, and infections. Participants will be monitored with microbiota analyses at specific time points seven days before surgery and at 15 and 30 days after surgery. Researchers will assess the structure of the gut microbiome and track any complications that develop after surgery. The study will also collect clinical data related to the patients conditions and outcomes to better understand the role of gut bacteria in surgical risks. Overall participation includes sample collection and follow-up for one month after surgery.
