Pancreatic Cancer Screening Study for Adults at High Risk Using CAPS3 and National Guidelines

Researchers are conducting a prospective multicenter observational study to evaluate the outcomes of pancreatic cancer screening in individuals at high risk for pancreatic cancer. The study follows the International Cancer of the Pancreas Screening Consortium CAPS3 guidelines and updated national recommendations to standardize which patients are included, how screening is done, and how results are measured. The focus is to identify patients with high-risk pancreatic lesions that may be treated, along with tracking cancer diagnoses, surgeries, and related outcomes over time. Participants who meet high-risk criteria based on CAPS3 or updated guidelines undergo screening using endoscopic ultrasound EUS or magnetic resonance imaging MRI. The study collects detailed information about patient characteristics, screening results, including lesion risk levels, and any surgeries or complications related to screening procedures. This data is gathered annually and monitored for at least 5 years, with ongoing follow-up planned through to the end of 2032. During the study, participants will have regular screenings and follow-up at their local study centers according to standard clinical practice. Researchers will record findings from each screening, surgeries performed, and any adverse events. The primary outcome is the proportion of patients found to have high-risk pancreatic lesions amenable to treatment. Secondary outcomes include rates of pancreatic cancer diagnosis, surgeries, cancer-related deaths, and complications from screening procedures. All data will be centrally stored and analyzed to understand the effectiveness and safety of pancreatic cancer screening in this high-risk group.
