What this Trial Is About
Psoriatic arthritis PsA is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting joints and other parts of the body. This study evaluates whether Glucagon-like peptide-1 GLP-1 medications, commonly used for type 2 diabetes and weight management, or nutrition counseling better manage PsA in individuals who also have obesity and type 2 diabetes. The trial aims to compare disease outcomes and treatment effectiveness between these two approaches. Participants are randomly assigned to either receive GLP-1 agonists or nutrition counseling. The study lasts 24 weeks, with up to four visits to the study center. During these visits, participants will complete questionnaires, have physical exams, and blood draws to monitor their health and treatment response. Researchers will assess changes in Minimal Disease Activity MDA scores and the proportion of patients achieving Disease Activity in Psoriatic Arthritis DAPSA remission at weeks 12 and 24. This includes both clinical and patient-reported outcomes. The trial is sponsored by the Medical College of Wisconsin and aims to provide insights into managing PsA alongside obesity and diabetes.
