Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is a method to support breathing using a mask or helmet instead of a breathing tube. It has been proven to reduce the need for intubation, save lives, shorten hospital stays, and lower healthcare costs. While NIV has traditionally been used in intensive care units (ICUs), its use is growing in emergency rooms, general wards, and long-term care facilities. This study aims to understand how NIV is currently used outside the ICU worldwide, including which patients receive it, how well it works, and what challenges exist. This research is a multinational, web-based survey involving physicians, nursing officers, and respiratory therapists who provide NIV to adult patients with acute and chronic respiratory failure. Participants will complete a structured questionnaire about their practices and experiences with NIV outside the ICU. The study will run for six months and is observational, with no interventions or treatments assigned by the researchers. Participants will provide information through the survey about patient demographics, clinical use of NIV, and barriers faced in non-ICU settings. Researchers will analyze this data to assess NIV prevalence, common conditions treated, patient outcomes, and challenges in NIV application outside the ICU. The study seeks to guide safer, more effective, and standardized NIV use across various healthcare settings globally.
