What this Trial Is About

Living donor liver transplantation is a widely accepted life-saving procedure for patients with end-stage liver diseases. Selecting the right donor carefully is crucial to ensure the success of the transplant and to reduce the risk of complications after surgery for both donors and recipients. Mapping the biliary anatomy is a key part of this selection and surgical planning since biliary reconstruction is a challenging aspect of liver transplantation. This study evaluates the use of Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography MRCP as part of the routine liver donor workup compared to not using MRCP. The trial randomly assigns donors to either undergo MRCP imaging or not, to understand its relationship with postoperative biliary complications in recipients. Intraoperative confirmation of biliary anatomy remains essential regardless of preoperative imaging. Participants will be monitored for early biliary complications in recipients up to 6 months after surgery, with donor biliary complications observed up to 1 month post-operation. Researchers will assess factors like the type and number of arterial and biliary reconstructions, graft types, and bile duct characteristics. The study includes regular clinical assessments and imaging to measure outcomes related to biliary complications and transplant success.
