What this Trial Is About
Researchers are conducting an observational study to assess General Practitioners knowledge, clinical practices, and attitudes regarding oral health and its links to major systemic diseases, focusing especially on periodontal disease. The study aims to explore awareness of oral conditions such as dental caries and periodontal diseases and their connections to autoimmune, metabolic, and cardiovascular diseases. This survey is designed to identify educational gaps and promote collaboration between general medicine and dentistry for better patient care. Participants will complete an anonymous digital questionnaire consisting of 35 closed-ended questions. The survey investigates familiarity with terminology related to periodontal disease, recognition of oral signs linked to systemic conditions, education and training in oral health, and understanding of risk factors such as smoking and diabetes. The questionnaire takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete and is distributed nationwide to General Practitioners practicing in Italy. Throughout the study, data will be collected on participants knowledge and professional practices regarding oral health and systemic disease associations. The primary outcome is the level of knowledge at questionnaire completion. The study also seeks to gauge interest in further education and continuing professional development. The findings aim to support improved prevention, screening, and multidisciplinary patient management. Participation is voluntary and requires informed consent, with all responses collected anonymously.
