What this Trial Is About
This research aims to evaluate whether a 3-month dance-based exercise program combined with personalized nutrition can improve health outcomes in obese breast cancer survivors who are in remission. The study focuses on reducing body weight, body fat, and visceral fat, as well as enhancing cardiorespiratory fitness, motor skills, gut microbiota composition, and quality of life. Researchers will compare women in the dance and nutrition program with a control group maintaining their usual lifestyle to assess metabolic, physical, and microbiome-related changes.
Participants in the intervention group will attend supervised dance classes three times per week for 12 weeks, each session lasting 60 minutes and featuring choreographies from folkloric, Latin American, and contemporary dance styles led by professional instructors. Alongside exercise, they will follow a personalized nutrition plan based on their resting metabolic rate, with a daily energy intake of 1200-1500 kcal balanced across carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and fiber. The control group will continue their normal daily activities without starting new exercise routines during the study.
All participants will complete assessments before and after the 12-week period, including measurements of body composition, physical fitness tests such as VO2max, biochemical blood tests, gut permeability evaluations, and gut microbiota profiling from stool samples. They will also record dietary intake and complete quality-of-life questionnaires. The study will monitor changes in body composition, fitness, gut microbiota diversity, metabolic markers, motor performance, and quality of life to understand the effects of this combined dance and nutrition intervention over the study duration.
