What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating a new community-based group program called FIESTA (Familias Inmigrantes Empoderándose contra eStrés Tomando Acción) designed to help Latinx immigrant families manage stress caused by structural racism. This study aims to see if FIESTA can reduce stress and symptoms of anxiety and depression, increase empowerment, improve knowledge of resources, strengthen parent-youth relationships, and encourage healthy coping skills. The study also looks at whether the program is feasible, acceptable, and relevant for Latinx families. The FIESTA program consists of ten weekly two-hour sessions led by two community health workers. These sessions cover stress management, family communication, and navigating community resources, with parent and youth groups held separately alongside joint activities. The study will enroll 35 parent-adolescent pairs, randomly assigning them to either start FIESTA immediately or wait three months before beginning. Data will be collected at the start, three months, and six months to evaluate outcomes and program feedback. Participants will attend sessions over ten weeks and complete assessments at baseline, three months, and six months. These include measures of stress, anxiety, depression, coping skills, family communication, self-efficacy, and resource knowledge. After completing the program, participants will provide feedback on how acceptable, appropriate, and feasible they found FIESTA. The study will monitor mental health and relationship improvements over six months, with all data collected by the research team.
