What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effectiveness and safety of pre-incisional infiltration with ropivacaine plus diprospan compared to ropivacaine alone in adults undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery VATS. This study focuses on reducing the high incidence of acute postoperative pain after VATS, which affects over 80% of patients and may lead to chronic pain and complications if not properly managed. The trial aims to assess whether adding diprospan, a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties, can improve pain relief and recovery quality. Participants receive one of two treatments before surgery infiltration of the incision with ropivacaine plus diprospan or ropivacaine alone. Both treatments involve layer-by-layer infiltration at the surgical site according to the surgeons incision markings. The study is randomized and quadruple-blinded, ensuring unbiased comparison of the two approaches. Treatments are administered once before surgery, with follow-up assessments conducted over time to monitor outcomes. During the study, participants will be monitored for pain levels using pain scales at multiple time points up to three months after surgery, rescue analgesic use within 48 hours, patient satisfaction, wound healing, nausea and vomiting, and scar assessments. Safety is closely watched through adverse event reporting within 72 hours postoperatively. The total participation spans from surgery through postoperative recovery assessments, enabling evaluation of both short-term and longer-term effects of the treatments.
