Study of Helicobacter Pylori in Adults With Newly Diagnosed Stomach Cancer in the French West Indies

Researchers are studying stomach cancer in the French West Indies, where rates of this cancer and related deaths are higher than in mainland France. This research aims to find out how common Helicobacter pylori infection is in patients newly diagnosed with stomach cancer. Understanding this prevalence may help improve knowledge about risk factors and prevention, especially since lifestyle and environmental factors might contribute to the high rates. The study observes patients diagnosed with stomach cancer who live in Guadeloupe. It involves detecting H. pylori bacteria in stomach tissue using immunohistochemistry and checking for antibodies against H. pylori through blood tests. This research does not involve treatment but focuses on gathering information to better understand the infections role in these cancers. Participants will provide consent and undergo tests to detect H. pylori at the time of cancer diagnosis. Researchers will collect data through questionnaires and medical evaluations. The main measurement is the presence of H. pylori detected in tissue samples at baseline, with additional antibody testing. The study runs from early 2025 through 2027, and participants privacy and safety are respected throughout.
