What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating a web-based Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention MBRP continuing care program called Renewed Recovery for individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder AUD who are exiting standard outpatient treatment. This pilot study follows a structured five-step framework guided by the Centre for eHealth and Wellbeing Research roadmap to design, implement, and assess the interventions impact on supporting recovery and reducing relapse risk. The intervention consists of an eight-week self-guided online curriculum with weekly modules that include educational content, mindfulness exercises, and videos. Participants attend two live group meditation sessions via Zoom during weeks 3 and 6. Before launching the pilot, the website and program are refined based on feedback from stakeholders and usability testing. The pilot will be conducted with 30 participants recruited from partnering treatment facilities. Participants will complete surveys at the start, end, and three months after the program to measure alcohol consumption and other outcomes such as depression, anxiety, coping behaviors, cravings, mindfulness, acceptance, self-efficacy, triggers, and social support. Additional evaluations include program and website satisfaction, recruitment and retention rates, and focus groups. The study aims to understand the usability and effectiveness of this digital continuing care option for AUD recovery.
