What this Trial Is About
The trial investigates nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI), which involves intentional physical harm without suicidal intent, focusing on adolescents aged 15 to 18 years. Researchers aim to understand how social feedback influences risky decision-making and risk avoidance in NSSI adolescents compared to healthy controls. The study explores how social rewards and punishments affect risk-taking behavior, addressing a gap in knowledge about emotional and social influences on this behavior. Participants include two groups: adolescents with NSSI and healthy controls. The study uses a modified Balloon Analogue Risk Task (BART), incorporating social feedback via different colored balloons representing reward, punishment, or neutral outcomes. This task measures risk-related decisions and social influences on risk-taking behavior. During the study, participants complete the BART, which lasts about 20 minutes, assessing risky avoidance and decision-making. The investigators measure how social feedback impacts the participants' risk-taking. The study is observational, with no treatment interventions, and includes screening for eligibility criteria such as handedness, vision, and psychiatric status. The total study duration and follow-up details are not specified.
