What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating whether image-based computer grading can accurately reflect the clinical severity of acne, melasma, rosacea, and seborrheic dermatitis compared to expert dermatologist assessments. The study aims to see if these computer-generated gradings correspond well with traditional clinical grading methods to improve analysis of these common skin conditions. Participants will not receive any treatment as part of this study. Instead, the study involves analyzing images of participants' skin to count inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions for acne, assess pigment intensity and distribution for melasma using the Melasma Area Severity Index, and grade seborrheic dermatitis with the Seborrheic Dermatitis Area Severity Index score. The study is non-randomized and does not include masking or blinding. During the study, participants will undergo facial photography to capture images for computer grading. Researchers will measure the correlation between image-based gradings and clinical gradings at baseline for each skin condition. They will also assess the sebum excretion rate at baseline. The study is open to adults with these skin conditions and participation is expected to be straightforward without intervention. The study is sponsored by Integrative Skin Science and Research and is scheduled to end in February 2025.
