What this Trial Is About
This research aims to find out if the Along With Me web-based program can reduce posttraumatic stress symptoms and thoughts of suicide in parents grieving a pregnancy or early infant loss. It also evaluates whether adding support from a Peer Guide helps improve these outcomes compared to the usual services parents receive. The study involves 300 bereaved parents who have experienced such losses and will compare three groups to see the differences in stress and suicidal thoughts. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups usual care, use of the Along With Me app alone, or use of the app plus support from a Peer Guide. The app offers about 10 therapeutic modules based on cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness to help manage grief and trauma. Those in the Peer Guide group will also have check-ins for additional support. All participants will be assessed over a 9-month period. During the study, participants will complete self-reports about their stress, suicidal thoughts, mental health, substance use, coping skills, and grief at the start and at 3, 6, and 9 months later. The study will also measure the apps usability for those using it. Researchers will monitor changes over time to understand how the interventions affect grief and trauma. The trial is expected to last until August 2027.
