What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the long-term effects of water-based burpee exercises on functional capacity in postmenopausal women who have undergone thyroidectomy. The study focuses on how aging leads to muscle mass and strength decline, which increases frailty, risk of falls, and reduced physical fitness. The trial aims to compare aquatic burpee exercises to traditional aerobic exercises in improving muscle strength, balance, and coordination in this population. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: the experimental group will perform water-based burpee exercises, while the control group will engage in traditional aerobic exercises such as brisk walking, jogging, and cycling. These interventions will be carried out over an 8-week period. The aquatic exercises are designed to support muscle strength and functional improvements without the impact stress of land-based activities. During the study, researchers will assess lung function measures including FEV1/FVC ratio, FEV1, peak expiratory flow, FVC, and chest expansion before and after the 8 weeks. Secondary assessments include mobility and balance tests such as the Timed Up and Go test, gait speed, 30-second chair stand test, and Berg Balance Scale. The study will monitor changes in functional capacity and physical performance to understand the benefits of these exercise methods in postmenopausal women after thyroidectomy.
