What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effects of an active music-based intervention on individuals with chronic low back pain (CLBP). The study aims to find out whether this musical intervention improves cognitive function, sensitivity to stimuli, pain-related negative thinking, and quality of life. A secondary goal is to compare cognitive function between participants with high versus low levels of central sensitization, a condition affecting pain sensitivity. Participants will attend five sessions over two weeks. The first session includes about 45 minutes of assessments followed by a 45-minute music intervention. The remaining four sessions each involve a one-hour active music session where participants engage in playing an instrument, singing, or songwriting, guided by certified music therapists. Participants choose their preferred musical activity, and all sessions are held in a fully equipped music therapy clinic. Before and after the intervention, researchers will assess cognitive abilities using specific tests, measure sensitivity to pressure, evaluate pain catastrophizing behavior, and assess quality of life through questionnaires. Participants will provide demographic and health information at the start. The total participation lasts about two weeks, during which safety and progress are monitored through these assessments and music therapy sessions.
