What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating two surgical techniques, coronally advanced flap (CAF) and tunneled coronally advanced flap (TCAF), combined with soft tissue grafts to treat gum recession in the lower front teeth. The study aims to compare the average root coverage each technique achieves both shortly after surgery and over a long term of up to 10 years. This research could help reduce tooth sensitivity, improve appearance, and make oral hygiene easier for participants. Participants will undergo one of the two surgical procedures, randomly assigned to receive either CAF or TCAF. Both methods involve repositioning the gum higher to cover the recession and include taking a small tissue graft from the palate to support and thicken the gum. After surgery, participants will have regular check-ups for up to 10 years and keep a journal to record medication use, pain levels, tooth sensitivity, and other recovery details. During the study, researchers will measure various outcomes including the mean root coverage, complete root coverage, pocket depth, gum thickness, and aesthetic results over the 10-year period. They will also track post-operative pain, treatment time, root sensitivity, and willingness for retreatment. Participants can expect thorough monitoring through clinical visits, evaluations, and questionnaires throughout the long follow-up period.
