What this Trial Is About
Transthyretin amyloidosis ATTR is a condition that is often not diagnosed early and can initially appear as carpal tunnel syndrome before affecting the heart. Early diagnosis is crucial due to the availability of new treatments. This study evaluates a less invasive biopsy method using the anterior annular ligament of the carpus during endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery, comparing it to the current gold standard, synovial biopsy, to detect amyloid deposits. Participants will have both an annular ligament biopsy and a synovial biopsy performed systematically during their endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery. The study focuses on determining how well the ligament biopsy agrees with the gold standard synovial biopsy and assessing the practical use and safety of the ligament biopsy during surgery. During the study, researchers will monitor the agreement between the two biopsy methods over three weeks. They will also evaluate the feasibility of routinely performing the ligament biopsy during surgery and assess safety within 24 hours after the procedure. This study aims to provide a simpler and safer screening method to identify patients at risk for ATTR early on, facilitating timely management.
