Decision Aid for Management of Thyroid Nodules and Early Thyroid Cancer

What this Trial Is About

This research focuses on patients with small, favorable malignant or uncertain thyroid nodules. It aims to evaluate how education about thyroid nodule management affects patient decision-making and satisfaction. The study is interventional and sponsored by Stony Brook University, targeting adults with specific thyroid conditions confirmed by histology. Participants will receive educational information about thyroid nodules and their management as part of the study's intervention. This education is behavioral and is delivered alongside routine care and counseling provided by their endocrinologist and surgeon. The study includes surveys conducted at enrollment, shortly after consultation, and again a few months following consultation or surgery to assess satisfaction with decisions and the decision-making process. Throughout the study, participants will complete brief surveys to evaluate their agreement between their informed values and chosen treatment, measured up to six months after surgery or surgical consultation. All participants continue with their usual medical care while researchers monitor treatment choices and decision satisfaction. The total participation duration includes these follow-up assessments to capture patient experience over time.
