What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying how deep brain stimulation (DBS) affects the electric fields on the scalp by measuring brain activity with electroencephalography (EEG) at very high sampling rates (over 100 kHz). The goal is to improve electric field simulations of DBS by comparing and adjusting these models using detailed EEG measurements. This observational study focuses on patients with conditions like Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, and dystonia who have undergone DBS surgery. Participants will undergo EEG recordings during various DBS settings, including bilateral therapeutic settings, unilateral versions, single segment use, or low-frequency unilateral DBS. EEG will be measured using a 4-channel analog EEG amplifier called Digitimer EEG. Different DBS conditions will be tested to capture the electric potentials induced by the stimulation. During the study, participants will have EEG recordings taken to measure the electric potential at specific scalp locations while DBS is active. These data will be used to validate and calibrate electric field simulations. The study involves patients aged 35 to 85 years who are more than three months post-DBS surgery. There are no exclusion criteria. Participation will last until the study ends, with the primary outcome focused on the electric potential recorded during DBS.
