Researchers are evaluating whether Reiki, a non-drug therapy, can reduce postoperative pain and improve recovery in patients undergoing lumbar spine surgery. This randomized, double-blind study involves 60 participants split into two groups, comparing Reiki sessions alongside standard care to placebo Sham sessions. The study aims to assess pain levels, quality of life, scar healing, analgesic use, and overall satisfaction after surgery. Participants will receive standard postoperative care including pain medications and physical rehabilitation. One group will have two Reiki therapy sessions administered by a certified practitioner, while the other group receives two Sham sessions that mimic Reiki without actual energy transfer. These interventions occur once one week before surgery and once fifteen days after surgery, with the surgery and usual care continuing in parallel. Participants will complete pain evaluations daily and attend follow-up visits on days 15, 21 phone call, and 30 after surgery. Assessments include pain measurement using a Visual Analog Scale, scar healing evaluation, quality of life questionnaires, pain medication monitoring, and satisfaction surveys. Additional routine exams and consultations occur at the one-month follow-up, with unscheduled visits possible if needed. Overall participation spans from screening through one month post-surgery.
