What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying people with known or suspected acute or chronic gastrointestinal diseases or those needing clinical screening, treatment, or follow-up according to current medical guidelines. This observational study collects data and biological samples to help improve future research and understanding of gastrointestinal diseases. Participants receive standard clinical care similar to that in a typical doctor's office, with care recommendations possibly shared with their primary or referring physicians. Participants will undergo physical exams and medical record reviews as part of their clinical evaluation. They may provide blood, urine, and stool samples. If participants have endoscopy or colonoscopy procedures as part of their care, leftover or extra samples such as gastric acid or tissue from the stomach or intestines may be collected for research. Data and samples are stored securely and coded to protect privacy. Participants remain in the study as long as they continue to receive care for their gastrointestinal condition and agree to participate. The study involves collecting data and samples during clinical evaluation, treatment, and follow-up visits. The primary outcome is to gather information for future studies of gastrointestinal diseases. The study follows participants over an extended period, with data and samples protected within NIH's secure systems.
