What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying fertility preservation and long-term care for children, adolescents, and young adults (CAYA) undergoing cancer treatments or stem cell transplantation. These treatments can affect fertility, so the study aims to identify factors predicting fertility problems, understand patient and family concerns, and improve clinical care practices. The research focuses on collecting data about therapy effects, hormone levels, body composition, genetics, and patient quality of life. The study involves creating a detailed database to gather medical information before, during, and after cancer therapies or stem cell transplantation at the University Medical Center Ulm. It tracks fertility preservation methods, endocrinological treatments, and reproductive support interventions. Different patient groups include those newly diagnosed, those with midterm follow-up, and long-term survivors, with prospective and retrospective data collection. Participants will have their medical, hormonal, and anthropometric data recorded at multiple points throughout treatment and follow-up, sometimes extending over 20 years. Researchers will assess fertility-related quality of life and informational needs over time. The primary outcomes include the prevalence of endocrine effects and predictors of fertility disorders, while secondary outcomes focus on quality of life. This study supports the development of an interdisciplinary center to enhance fertility care for young cancer patients.
