Delirium is a common and serious condition affecting many patients in intensive care units, especially those on invasive mechanical ventilation. This research aims to evaluate whether the ICU Delirium Playbook, a multimedia educational program developed by the University of California, San Diego, can improve intensive care nurses knowledge, confidence, and clinical practice related to delirium assessment and management. The study uses a pre-post design at Pisa University Hospital to assess the programs impact on nurses and patient outcomes. The ICU Delirium Playbook intervention consists of brief instructional videos and realistic clinical scenarios delivered in a single in-person session lasting about four hours. Nurses will complete questionnaires about their delirium knowledge, attitudes, and clinical behaviors before and after the training, with follow-up at six months. Patient data, including delirium recognition and episode duration, will be collected from medical records before and after the intervention to measure changes in clinical practice. Participants will be ICU nurses at Pisa University Hospital who will provide data through questionnaires and attend the educational session. Researchers will collect clinical data from ICU patient records to evaluate delirium outcomes. The study measures include nurses knowledge acquisition at three time points, satisfaction with the training, application of learning in practice, and patient-level delirium recognition rates. The study will end after the six-month post-intervention follow-up, providing insight into the effectiveness of delirium education in critical care.
