What this Trial Is About
Multiple sclerosis MS is a chronic disease affecting the central nervous system, leading to motor problems, sensory issues, cognitive difficulties, and loss of independence. Exercise has become recognized as a safe way to improve physical function and quality of life in people with MS. This study evaluates a new approach called ExeRVIEM III, which uses immersive virtual reality combined with exercise to support rehabilitation for people with MS, aiming to improve motor and cognitive functions in community settings. The study compares two groups one receiving a high-intensity virtual reality exercise program using a VR headset combined with standard rehabilitation physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and cognitive training, and the other receiving only the standard rehabilitation. The virtual reality program lasts six months with two supervised 10-minute sessions per week. Both groups continue their usual rehabilitation care provided by a patient associations clinical team. Participants will be assessed at the beginning and end of the six-month program. Evaluations include disability level, gait, manual dexterity, cognitive function, fatigue, and biomarkers related to nerve injury. Safety and adherence to the virtual reality sessions will be monitored. Functional mobility, strength, dual-task performance, and fatigue levels will also be measured. Data collection occurs both at the patient association and at a hospital neurology department. The total participation time is six months.
