Intraoral Scan and CBCT Aided Diagnosis of Dental Plaque and Caries

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the accuracy of intraoral scans (IOS) to detect dental plaque and caries in adults aged 18 to 70 years. This observational study compares the performance of IOS with current clinical standards such as plaque detection using disclosing agents, conventional visual inspection, and bitewing radiography. The goal is to understand how well IOS can identify plaque and caries compared to established methods. All participants will undergo several diagnostic procedures including intraoral scanning, visual inspection, plaque disclosure, and bitewing radiography to assess dental plaque and caries. The study does not involve treatment but focuses on comparing different diagnostic tools. All assessments will take place at baseline and again after 2 weeks to evaluate the accuracy and agreement of these methods. During the study, participants will have intraoral scans and conventional dental examinations to detect plaque and caries. Researchers will measure diagnostic accuracy and agreement between the IOS and standard techniques at both time points. Participants will provide informed consent and need to have at least 20 teeth. The study will continue until July 2027 and includes healthy volunteers. Participant involvement includes baseline and follow-up visits for diagnostic assessments.
