What this Trial Is About
This trial focuses on Latino/a individuals and aims to improve their connection to mental health services. Researchers are studying how a community-based educational approach can enhance mental health knowledge, reduce stigma, build coping skills, and encourage seeking help before crises occur. The study is interventional and evaluates behavioral education methods led by community health workers called Promotores de Salud. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two six-week educational programs. One group receives sessions about mental health topics like literacy, coping, stigma reduction, and rights. The other group attends sessions focused on community resources including violence, employment, housing rights, and empowerment. Both groups have data collected at baseline, 1 week after the last session, and at 3- and 6-month follow-ups. During the study, participants attend six educational sessions and complete assessments on attitudes toward seeking psychological help, mental health service use, self-efficacy, and treatment expectations at various follow-up points. The main outcome measured is the attitude toward seeking professional psychological help at six months. The total study duration includes initial education plus follow-ups over six months to monitor changes and lasting effects.
