Long-term Observational Study of Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in the Netherlands

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying the long-term effects of autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation aHSCT in people with highly active relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis RRMS. This observational study aims to evaluate disease activity, safety and tolerability of aHSCT, and changes in the immune system after treatment. The study is conducted by Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc. Participants who have undergone aHSCT treatment will attend frequent visits for five years. During these visits, clinical tests, questionnaires, MRI scans, and blood samples will be collected to monitor their condition and immune responses. The study focuses on treatment efficacy and various health outcomes measured over two years, including relapse rates, disability changes, MRI results, side effects, quality of life, and immune markers. Participants will be closely monitored with clinical evaluations, questionnaires, MRI and optical coherence tomography scans, and blood tests at regular intervals. Researchers will assess multiple outcomes such as relapse frequency, disability progression or improvement, functional status, side effects, and quality of life measures over two years. The study involves a long-term follow-up of five years after treatment to understand the lasting effects of aHSCT on RRMS.
