What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the impact of resistance band exercises combined with fitness advice on balance, muscle function, and power in older adults who have low muscle power. The study focuses on people aged 50 and older to understand how these interventions may help improve physical performance related to aging. The study is designed as an interventional trial to assess these effects over a 12-week period. Participants will be assigned to one of several groups resistance band exercise with fitness advice, resistance band exercise without fitness advice, fitness advice alone, or no intervention normal life. Those in the resistance band groups will perform exercises targeting the lower limbs, consisting of three sets of 15 repetitions twice a week. Fitness advice includes functional tests with personalized recommendations to encourage increased physical activity. During the 12 weeks, participants will be monitored through various tests measuring balance, muscle power, and strength. Key assessments include postural sway, the time to complete five sit-to-stand repetitions, single leg stand time, and timed up and go tests. Secondary measures include grip strength, fear of falling, self-efficacy for exercise, perceived changes in body and balance, and quality of life. The trial aims to gather comprehensive data on the effects of these interventions on muscle and balance function in older adults.
