Researchers are conducting the Cantabria Cohort study to better understand the causes and outcomes of various acute and chronic diseases, especially focusing on cardiovascular and metabolic conditions that are major health concerns in Spain. This observational study involves a large population-based group from the Cantabria region, aiming to improve disease prevention and precision medicine by collecting extensive health data over a long period. The study plans to recruit between 40,000 and 50,000 residents aged 40 to 69 years at the start. Participants will be followed for 20 years, with re-assessments every three years. Data collection includes biological samples, detailed questionnaires, medical exams, health system records, and public data sources. This comprehensive approach allows researchers worldwide to access and collaborate on this rich dataset. Participants will be involved in regular assessments every three years, providing samples and health information to support research on lifestyle risks, disease biomarkers, geographic and socio-economic health disparities, and viral infections like hepatitis and HIV.
