What this Trial Is About
This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an individual health coaching program for adults who are candidates for lung transplantation. The study compares this coaching intervention to the usual pre-transplant care and education provided to patients. Researchers want to see if health coaching can improve patient-reported outcomes related to lung transplant preparation. Participants in the study will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group will receive up to 12 health coaching sessions conducted by phone over 12 to 16 weeks, focusing on improving self-management skills along with usual pre-transplant education. The other group will receive only the usual pre-transplant education without additional coaching. During the study, participants will complete questionnaires measuring aspects like mastery and emotional function related to chronic respiratory disease at the start and after 12 to 16 weeks. Researchers will also assess quality of life about a year after transplant and gather feedback on how feasible and acceptable the coaching intervention is through surveys and interviews. The total participation timeline includes the coaching period and follow-up assessments post-transplant.
