What this Trial Is About
This research aims to improve the ability of primary care to support healthy eating and physical activity habits in adults at higher risk of disease due to poor lifestyle choices. It focuses on adults aged 40 to 70 with elevated metabolic risk factors and aims to evaluate changes in diet quality, physical activity, and metabolic risk factors. The study evaluates how health counseling combined with digital support can impact these areas.
Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups. The experimental group receives health counseling focused on physical activity and diet, along with access to an E-health platform designed to encourage healthy lifestyle habits. The control group receives standard care advice about general health benefits of healthy habits, including physical activity, diet, limiting alcohol use, and smoking cessation, as well as feedback on their current lifestyle and health status. Tobacco users and those with high alcohol consumption are referred to specialized care. The study measures changes before, at 16 weeks, and at 12 months.
During the study, participants' blood glucose and plasma triglyceride levels, physical activity, and intake of healthy foods are monitored at baseline, 16 weeks, and 12 months. Additional assessments include waist circumference, blood pressure, HDL-cholesterol, and BMI over the same periods. Participants will be followed for up to one year to evaluate how these interventions affect their metabolic health and lifestyle habits.
