Study of Corin Gene Double Polymorphism Thr555Ile and Glu568Pro as a Risk Factor for High Blood Pressure in Afro-Caribbean Adults in Guadeloupe

Researchers are investigating the role of a specific double polymorphism I555P568 of the Corin gene as a risk factor for arterial hypertension in people of African descent living in Guadeloupe. Hypertension and cardiovascular disease disproportionately affect this population, with higher severity and earlier onset. The Corin gene affects blood pressure regulation through its activation of natriuretic peptides, and this polymorphism is linked to poorer heart failure outcomes and hypertension in African Americans, but has not yet been studied in Guadeloupe. The study is interventional and involves two groups patients of Afro-Caribbean origin with hypertension and control participants of the same origin, sex, and similar age without hypertension. Hypertension diagnosis follows specific blood pressure thresholds measured in the doctors office, by self-measurement, or ambulatory monitoring. Participants will undergo diagnostic testing for the double polymorphism and various cardiovascular and metabolic assessments. During the study, participants will have several measurements taken including blood pressure, heart function tests, blood and urine analyses, and body measurements. The primary outcome is detection of the double polymorphism at day 15. Secondary outcomes include heart failure evaluation, kidney function, blood markers like natriuretic peptides and glucose, ECG measurements, and echocardiographic heart assessments at different time points. The study aims to better understand genetic contributions to hypertension and related conditions in this population.
