What this Trial Is About
Researchers are investigating whether adding aerobic exercise to Cognitive Behavioural Treatment can improve outcomes for men who experience heavy drinking, impotence, and metabolic syndrome. This study aims to evaluate the benefits of combining these approaches, as the effect of adding aerobic training to this treatment has not been tested before. The trial involves adult men between 35 and 45 years old who have these conditions. The study divides participants into two groups of twenty men each. Both groups receive Cognitive Behavioural Treatment three times a week for 12 weeks, with each session lasting 30 minutes. The first group also takes part in supervised aerobic training by walking on an electrical treadmill for 50 minutes per session, three times a week during the same 12-week period. This comparison will help assess the added value of aerobic exercise alongside behavioural therapy. During the study, researchers will measure erectile function using the International Index of Erectile Function after 12 weeks. They will also evaluate body measurements like body mass index and waist circumference, blood pressure, blood markers including triglycerides and glucose, as well as psychological factors such as alcohol abstinence self-efficacy, mood, cravings, and stress levels. These assessments will monitor progress and treatment effects, with participation lasting the full 12 weeks of therapy.
