What this Trial Is About
Researchers are investigating the reliability of the GRAMPA score, a new tool designed to measure motor abilities in elderly patients hospitalized in a geriatrics department. Existing scales often lack comprehensive evaluation of basic movements or depend on self-reporting, which may not provide detailed insight into patients' motor skills. The study aims to provide a more complete and graded assessment of essential movements such as getting up in bed, turning in bed, sitting at the edge of the bed, standing up, moving around a small area, sitting up, and returning to bed. The GRAMPA scale assesses these basic movements by rating autonomy at three levels: unassisted, partial assistance, and significant assistance. This method is intended to better reflect the motor abilities of elderly patients in a confined space like a hospital room. The GRAMPA score will be performed on each patient at admission, during hospitalization by two different physiotherapists, and at discharge. It will be compared with two established scales, the Minimum Motor Test (MMT) and the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scale, to evaluate validity. Participants will undergo motor skill assessments using the GRAMPA scale, which takes about 5 to 10 minutes to complete. The study will measure the inter-rater reliability of the GRAMPA score as the primary outcome, alongside secondary outcomes assessing its validity compared to other motor skill scales. The study involves baseline testing and follow-up assessments over an average of three weeks. There is no anticipated risk or direct treatment benefit from participation, and the study will not alter patient care.
