What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying people with Parkinsons Disease who already have a Percept RC Deep Brain Stimulation DBS device implanted. The purpose is to understand how brain activity recorded from the device relates to sleep stages and to evaluate how DBS affects sleep quality and sleep events. This research aims to identify new markers of sleep quality and disturbances in Parkinsons Disease to improve DBS programming beyond its effects on motor symptoms. Participants will undergo two nights of sleep studies called Polysomnography PSG. On one night, the DBS device will be turned on, and on the other night, it will be turned off, in a randomized order. Each participant acts as their own control. The study includes two groups based on DBS target areas in the brain subthalamic nucleus STN and globus pallidus internus GPi. During the study, participants will sleep overnight in a sleep lab for two nights to compare sleep with DBS on versus off. Researchers will assess sleep quality, motor symptoms, and daytime sleepiness using tools like the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. Participants must follow the PSG regimen and may need to stop sleep medications before the study. The study will last until February 2028, with ongoing evaluations from baseline through 14 days.
