What this Trial Is About

This research aims to explore how smartphone addiction affects posture and breathing control among healthy university students aged 18 to 35 years. Excessive smartphone use has been linked to changes in head and thoracic posture and musculoskeletal complaints, which may impact breathing patterns. Understanding these relationships may help clarify the physical effects of smartphone overuse in young adults. Participants will undergo an observational assessment involving questionnaires for smartphone addiction using the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Form and breathing control using the Self Evaluation of Breathing Questionnaire. Posture will be evaluated with the New York Posture Rating Chart. Participants will be grouped based on addiction status according to scale cutoffs to compare postural and respiratory outcomes. During the study, participants will provide demographic information, including age, sex, smoking status, and smartphone usage duration. Researchers will analyze data to determine if smartphone addiction independently predicts postural problems and how it relates to breathing control. This cross-sectional study will be conducted between April and September 2026 and aims to provide evidence on the musculoskeletal and respiratory consequences of excessive smartphone use.
