Study of Age and Gender Differences in Emergency Department Visits and Outcomes

Researchers are studying how age and gender affect patients admitted to the emergency department. This observational study aims to understand the frequency of emergency visits, causes for admission, hospitalization rates, and death rates among different age and gender groups. The study focuses on patients evaluated between January 2014 and December 2023 at two hospitals, dividing participants into age groups under 50, 50 to 65, 66 to 75, and over 75, further categorized by gender including males, females, and non-binary individuals. The study does not involve any treatments or interventions as it is observational. Researchers will collect and analyze existing patient data from emergency department visits to explore differences across the defined age and gender groups. There are no experimental treatments or medications involved, and the research is based entirely on reviewing medical records and outcomes. Participants will be adults admitted to the emergency department from 2014 to 2023. The research team will review hospital records to track outcomes such as death within 30 days and length of hospital stay up to 180 days. This information helps to understand how age and gender might influence emergency care and patient outcomes. Participants usual care continues as normal without changes due to the study.
